Walking with an Irish Immigrant is author Debbie Bowman Shea’s tribute to her grandmother; a woman whose remarkable courage and contribution had somehow been lost to the ages. Debbie’s grandmother, Abigail Bina Harrington, left Ireland in the spring of 1906 to make her journey across the Atlantic Ocean and eventually to Butte, Montana, where she would live out the rest of her days.

 Debbie Shea’s strong love for her hometown, her romantic attachment to Ireland, and her curiosity for “all things history” prompted this tribute. It is in celebration of her grandmother and all the women who braved the New World, but somehow got lost in the shuffle, that this book is dedicated to.

Brown Bag Lunches are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month. Upcoming lectures will focus on topics of local interest. Presentations for the Brown Bag Lunch Series are held in the auditorium at the Butte-Silver Bow Public Archives, located at 17 W. Quartz Street. Guests are encouraged to bring a sack lunch. Coffee and water will be provided.
